About Superior Dairy

Since its doors opened in 1929, Superior Dairy has been offering up generous portions of ice cream favorites to eatery-goers. Co-owner of the downtown Hanford landmark Susan Wing told The Sentinel that the business has been locally owned since its beginning. “My grandfather Judson [Bowden] started the business, my dad Jim [Bowden] took over in 1964 and my brother and I took it over in 1994,” Wing said. “So it’s been in the family all this time.” Adding to the parlor’s historical appeal is the nine standard flavors of ice cream that have been continuously offered for 85 years. The flavors include maplenut, lemon, chocolate chip and rocky road to name a few. You can also find specialty flavors such as peach and pumpkin featured seasonally. With their oversized portions and mouth-watering flavors, visitors flock from all over to sample the signature ice cream products. Wing said the Banana Split -- which is three large scoops of ice cream, a whole sliced banana, strawberry and pineapple topping, whipped cream, walnuts and a cherry-- is what most customers order. The Superior Special is frequently requested by patrons as well. Wing said that besides the high quality ingredients and delicious taste, the business has withstood the test of time because of one thing: consistency. “It always tastes the same,” she said. “The only thing that changes is the prices.” [Article from The Sentinel August 7, 2014 http://hanfordsentinel.com/news/local/kings-county-in-objects-superior-dairy/article_fbf277c0-14ba-5bc3-8fb5-4512b810e036.html ]
