About Damburger

Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; Sat 10am-3pm; Sun 11am-3pm Serving Redding for over 80 years, Damburger is located in the heart of Downtown near the historic Cascade Theater. We prepare our burgers with freshly ground beef purchased daily from R & R Quality Meats. The signature Damburger patty is a thin well-done patty with a crispy edge, but we also offer the thicker, third of a pound burger called the Helen--named after the customer who many decades ago told the founder, Bud Pennington to make her a thicker burger. We also offer several vegetarian options including the newer plant based Beyond Burger. A little history: Bud Pennington was 18 years old in 1938 when he set up his burger stand outside the hiring hall for Shasta Dam construction workers in downtown Redding. It was a simple burger with just mustard, lettuce, and onions--even cheese wasn't available until 1962! This is the "Original Damburger" which many long-time customers still prefer. However over time we've added mayonnaise, ketchup, and pickles as well as specialty burgers such as the Hot Dam and BBQ Dam to give customers more options. Bud and his wife Babe ran Damburger for nearly 40 years before retiring. Ron and Kathy Dickey bought the little nine stool restaurant in 1979 and slowly expanded it to a 60+ seat restaurant all the while keeping the same classic Damburger recipe that patrons continue to love. Now their daughters Julie and Nell and long-time manager Marla are honored to own and operate this wonderful Redding institution!
