We are 1 of 89 Main Street Programs in Texas. Stephenville was the only town selected to participate in the program in 2021. At the center of our beautiful downtown is the Erath County Courthouse. Constructed in 1892, it is the work of architect, James Riely Gordon. It features a striking polychromatic exterior of native white limestone with red Pecos sandstone accents and, as one of Gordon’s earlier works; it displays several features that have become hallmarks of his courthouse designs. The amazing district contains over 23 full city blocks surrounding the 1892 Erath County Courthouse. Our remarkable downtown square boasts streets paved with Thurber bricks during the 1920s. Filled with a variety of shops and restaurants, this notable destination is a year-round delight. The mission of the Stephenville Main Street Program is to maintain the unique, historic downtown, recognizing its history and planning for its future. We utilize the four point approach of Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Vitality. Our vision is to foster a downtown that is unique and a vibrant destination, where local businesses can thrive and people can connect, create, shop, and celebrate.
